Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

As someone with limited Japanese skills, I faced real challenges in finding an apartment in Tokyo. Many landlords are hesitant to rent to non-Japanese speakers, which made the search feel daunting and at times overwhelming. Navigating these hurdles on my own would have been extremely difficult.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend recommended Tokyo Housing, knowing the challenges I faced. Their reputation for supporting international clients and their experience working with non-Japanese speakers were key factors that attracted me. I felt confident that they could provide the help I needed to find a comfortable place in Tokyo.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san has helped me find apartments twice now, each time when I moved for a new job. Her kindness and expertise made both transitions smooth and stress-free, from finding places that matched my needs to assisting with communication whenever issues arose with the landlord. Her dedication and patience ensured that I felt supported throughout each step. Beyond her work, Miho and I share a long-standing friendship; we’ve even climbed Mount Fuji together, and she recently shared her passion for Japanese Noh theatre, which she has been practicing for many years, as a guest speaker for my students.

I’m grateful to know Miho and to have had her support during these moves, and I know many of my friends and colleagues feel the same.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Looking for an apartment in Tokyo is a monumental task for a foreigner, especially if one doesn’t speak Japanese perfectly. There are a lot of hidden fees and nuances about apartments, implicit conditions, and it is overall pretty challenging to find an affordable apartment on your own. Besides, there is always a possibility that you will be denied simply on the grounds of being a foreigner.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I was in a desperate situation with a lot of problems simultaneously affecting me on all fronts. Apartment search was on the top of the list. Tokyo housing was suggested to me by my boss who, as a foreigner, encountered quite similar issues a few years before that. According to his words, the agency was very helpful and foreigner-friendly. Having studied their website and considered recommendation of a person I trusted, I turned to Tokyo Housing for help.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

My experience with Tokyo Housing was amazing. I was in a very difficult position at the time with economical budget and a list of requirements towards a potential apartment. Despite this rather picky position, the staff did not question my preferences but simply facilitated the search. The agency has carried out a huge and impressive work searching through over a few dozens of listings with my shifting requirements at heart. All of this on top of kind, polite, speedy, and professional treatment. Miho-san was a life saver for me and helped to alleviate my problems a lot.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I was fortunate to find an apartment that accepts foreigners/students directly without encountering any difficulties.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

There were good reviews on the website, and one of the staff members speaks English, making it easier for me to express my criteria.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

The team at Tokyo Housing is very kind and attentive. They will do their best to help you find what you are looking for, and even after moving in, they are always ready to assist if you have any questions.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I didn’t know where to start when I began looking for an apartment in Tokyo… It felt like everything made somewhat accessible via online & foreign agencies were overpriced and sometimes in poor locations, and the process for non-Japanese speakers was extra complicated and limits the apartments which you can be eligible to apply for. I was working with a different agent and was rejected from 3 different applications with no reason given, which became very disheartening and stressful.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I was desperately looking for a different agency and a friend of mine asked on a Facebook group for French Expats in Tokyo, and someone recommended Tokyo Housing and spoke highly of their service, so I emailed and got an answer the same day.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

When I started the process with Tokyo Housing I was starting to think I would never find an apartment and felt quite pessimistic – but I really felt in good hands with Miho-san. She is so patient and really helped me build a stronger application – it truly felt like I had someone fighting in my corner and giving me their full support. She also managed to find potential apartments close to my work, arrange multiple viewings on the weekends (as working full-time during the week made it difficult for me), and kindly explained and translated on various matters – from signing the contract to how to open my mailbox. And I finally found an apartment after only a week or so. I would definitely recommend Tokyo Housing to anyone looking to move here!

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Finding an apartment in Japan when your Japanese is not great can be a challenge. Adding on top of that the owners not allowing foreigners, finding a good place that at the same time is not tailored for foreigner and therefore overprice can prove to be a challenge.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Tokyo Housing was recommend on various websites and forums as a great place to find housing in Tokyo. Which proved to be quite accurate!

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san has been incredibly helpful throughout the whole process, from helping tailor my needs to filtering offers that would not be a good match to handling the communication with the owner’s agent. It was smooth, speedy, efficient, what more to ask? The whole process took no more than 2 weeks and that’s only because I was busy with work. It was a pleasure working with Tokyo Housing, and I’ll for sure come back when I’ll want to move to my next place.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I had never searched for an apartment in Japan. And I didn’t know which company/agency/realtor I should use. On top of that, I didn’t have the time to search.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Tokyo Housing was recommended by a friend and I felt more confident. They are open to foreign people and will welcome them warmly.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

At first I didn’t want to give my Line to people that I don’t know, that’s why they suggested to meet. I’m glad we did because I didn’t feel like a foreigner as it can the case i some places. I’m lucky because when Japanese people understand that I speak and understand clearly, there attitude start to change, and maybe others don’t have that chance. But I have the feeling that it wouldn’t have been the case with Tokyo Housing. No being looked down feeling. They were professional but not cold at all and I felt relieved. They were really helpful too. I thank them for insisting on knowing my habits because they will do their best to find the most suitable place, and I’m totally satisfied with the place I live in.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Before discovering Tokyo Housing, my sister and I who are both university students really had no idea where to start with finding an apartment in Tokyo. We had to find a location between Setagaya and Hongo, and there was also a language barrier which added to the challenge.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Tokyo Housing was the first place we came to and once we met Miho-san, we knew that we were in the best hands and would not need to go anywhere else.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san helped us every step of the way and answered so kindly and promptly. We visited five places together and she was always happy to support us, making sure we got the place that was right for us. She translated the contract for us and helped to arrange everything. When we felt lost she was always there and never left us alone! Any questions we had she answered, even if she had to go out of her way to do so. She made us feel welcomed and that living in Tokyo would not be as intimidating as we initially thought. We highly recommend and will always deeply appreciate the help and kindness we received at Tokyo Housing.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

When I moved to Japan, I faced some difficulties finding a real estate agency that communicates in English as most real estate agents in Tokyo have difficulties in English communication. Many of them will refuse to do property examination in English.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Luckily, a friend of mine recommended Tokyo Housing real estate agency. I was really lucky to have found Tokyo housing as Miho-san assisted me in finding a suitable apartment for my needs.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san listened carefully and fully understood what I was for in an apartment, in terms of size, internal structure and location. She made a great effort and contacted multiple properties that satisfy my requirements until we found the most suitable apartment.
I’m really happy with Tokyo Housing services in assisting foreigners finding nice apartments.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Being a foreigner, I knew coming to Japan and getting my own apartment will be difficult because of the language barrier. On top of that I am on a Working Holiday Visa which I am currently allowed to stay in Japan for 1 year.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Even before coming to Japan, I was already looking for an agent who will be able to help me with the search. It took a while before I found Tokyo Housing. This was by chance! I was watching a vlog on YouTube about moving to a new apartment in Tokyo.
There was also a review from one of the YouTube channel I was following on their website. Hence why I decided to go with Tokyo Housing.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

From the very beginning (consultation) to the end (contract signing), I received abundant help from Miho san and her father. I continue to get help from them even after getting my after such as calling the water, gas and electricity companies. I also got invited to Miho san’s university festival which was very fun and interesting. I learned a lot.

When I consulted with them about renting an apartment, they explained how housing rental works in Japan. They also explained the different terminologies used when renting a place in Japan. All in english which is a big plus!

Even though I only had 1 year on my visa and have a very low chance of renting my own place, Miho san helped explained my situation to all the management companies of the apartments we saw.

I probably wouldn’t have been able to rent if not for their help and patience. If ever I get to stay in Japan longer and will need to look for another apartment, I will definitely consult Miho san and her father again!

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

One of the most difficult things about looking for an apartment is probably the language barrier. Most websites are in Japanese and management companies rarely speak English so it’s really a struggle.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I saw Tokyo Housing via Google Maps. I was looking for agencies through this and I saw that they had English speaking staff so I went to their office directly.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Ms. Horiike has been very compassionate, understanding, and patient with me. I had a lot of demands but she really worked hard to make ends meet. I’m very comfortable talking and expressing my needs with her. I highly recommend this agency if you’re a foreigner (or even Japanese) looking for apartments.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Searching for an apartment might be difficult, especially at the beginning because of the language barrier, the different methods of renting compared to our country, and especially because of being foreigners that that might make things more complicated sometimes.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

We found them on the internet looking for information about house renting in Tokyo with English support.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

At Tokyo Housing they always gave us a hand with everything they could and took really in mind our requests when house hunting. They have been very nice, kind, and also very professional through all of the processes. They also have English support for foreigners that need extra help. Tokyo Housing already found our second apartment and we are very glad to have continued with them and for founding such great places! We already recommended to our friends if they ever want to look for a new apartment, to meet them. For any new potential clients, please give them a try!

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I was searching for an apartment for both me and my cousin still overseas, and it was kind of difficult to find a place where not only foreigners were allowed, but also landlords that were fine with one of us still being outside the country.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I was introduced to Tokyo Housing and Miho-san by friends that were moving just a bit earlier than me.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

They helped a lot with finding the flat and paperwork. Also committed to help with the problems that arise with housing.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

I already had experience with Japanese real estates but Tokyo Housing are by far the more reliable and really friendly. Being able to communicate in English for the details was pretty nice.

I found this agency because it was recommended to me by my school and it was close to where I was living at the time. It was certainly a great choice.

Q2. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san is a great professional, patient and friendly. From the first day, she helped me a lot and solved all my doubts in this renting process. Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Before I came to Japan, I knew it will be difficult to find an apartment as a foreigner and as a student. A search on the internet will tell you that most of Japanese apartment owners refrain from renting to foreigners because a lot of reasons. Also, there are a lot of agencies who do not speak any English and which make it more difficult. The real estate agencies who are English friendly, however, are more expensive ones for their service. I feel I had a lot of luck in my beginning of my search because after I contacted Tokyo Housing (The first one I contacted), no more than 3 weeks later I already signed my new apartment!

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I feel I had a lot of luck in my search for an apartment in Tokyo. After I scanned up and down the internet with real estate agencies websites, apartment ads and searching advices, I came across with this YouTube video which really recommended Tokyo Housing:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_q3DcV9qtM

Tokyo Housing website is in English, in central location – one minute walk from Takadanobaba station and offers you to come anytime to the office. I had a really warm welcome from Naoya-san and his daughter Miho-san from the first moment I arrived to their office.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Miho-san knows English very well, so it was very simple to communicate. Naoya-san and Miho-san asked me carefully about my needs, my budget, and my other requirements. Immediately right after that Miho-san searched available apartments in my wished area and started to call to many agencies. Immediately the day after we got on the train and saw 6 different apartments in one day! Riding the trains, walking (and even running) and make conversations between the apartments was also fun experience. You can see and impressed by the neighborhood. Also, Because I did not have a Japanese phone number, they lend me one of their phones so I could speak with the insurance company (I do not think there is any other agency that will do that for a costumer). Finally, I think in the 10th apartment we saw, I decided to sign an apartment I really like. On the day of signing the contract, Naoya-san explained me about the contract and all the important details. A representative of the insurance company was present, and everything went through smoothly. Miho-san helped me to call the water, electric and internet companies and she also went with me to meet my owner. So, in the end, I am very glad of the quick process and special care I had in Tokyo Housing.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Most of the time, real estate agencies have an exclusive and final list of apartments they can show to the costumer. However, Tokyo Housing can approach many real estate agencies and I was able to see many apartments in many locations in the city.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

When searching for properties with other companies, I have often found that it is incredibly demoralising, especially if you need to sit next to the agent while they call properties to confirm if they will take foreigners or not. It also feels like a box-checking exercise (“please just take the first thing we show you”) instead of fully understanding your needs and requests. The situation is quite formal and it often feels as if you cannot speak from the heart about the listings, or if you do, the issue will not be understood.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Recommendations from multiple friends who have been long-time foreign residents. While I wish we could all just find almost any real estate agent, the reality is that there are extra barriers for foreigners and that requires understanding. I realised Tokyo Housing was able to grasp this and were quickly able to help.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

When I first approached Tokyo Housing I really wasn’t ready to commit to moving, and rather than pressuring me into any situations, my concerns were heard and understood, with no bad blood between parties. This meant that when I was ready to move, I had no hesitation to return to Tokyo Housing. The staff are incredibly friendly and take a genuine interest in you, which also makes meeting with them, visiting the properties, and even the paperwork, easier. My other apartments in Tokyo I rushed to move into and so I often moved with unanswered questions, but I felt I could ask the staff at Tokyo Housing anything and they never made it feel like a burden. Hopefully I do not need to move again for some time, but if and when I do, I know I will be approaching Tokyo Housing again.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Finding an apartment was quite tough as a foreign student, as apartment owners often choose not to rent to foreigners.
I went from one real estate company to the next for months and often would only be shown very old or inconvenient places.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I just happened to see their banner advertising easy housing for foreigners while walking home from Takadanobaba and wandered inside. After entering, I had a very pleasant talk with Mr.Horiike, he was very friendly and his personality immediately convinced me that Tokyo Housing could be the real estate agency for me.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

They did plenty of research on my behalf and I had the opportunity to see plenty of houses before finally settling on one.
They also helped me understand everything I needed to know before moving in my first house, which was useful after I lived in sharehouses for 4 years.

我在找房子的时候因为要求比较繁琐所以一直找不到合心意的。通常不是是价格过高就是距离上班的地点较远。

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

首先他们不仅仅局限于日语,这让身为外国人的我交流起来很安心,其次这家公司在业内做很久,很多房子发生过什么事都了解,而且对租房子在管理公司那边的信誉也有保障。这样租起房子来会相当安心。

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes, language barrier is the main difficulty for finding in Japan. Also, some Japanese tenant will not accept non-Japanese speaker, make the less options for house searching. Previously when I first arrived Japan and search for house I did not have much options as a foreigner. Actually I was holding a traveler visa which limits my choice even more. I actually try to move earlier but due to the corona condition I was forced to live in the same condition. The main reason that make me to move, is because of the expensive rent and no flexibility.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Tokyo Housing has experience of helping foreigner. Also, as an English speaker, I can communicate English perfectly with Tokyo Housing, therefore it becomes extremely helpful for house searching in Tokyo.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Being able to communicate in English and having clear and professional explanation of all the house renting condition by native Japanese speaker is the most critical point, meanwhile searching time is extremely short and able to meet the requirement from customer.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

I think the friendliness and helpfulness is the main different from other agency, also the proactiveness and efficiency is better in general. Most of the Japanese housing companies only provide services to Japanese speakers, I actually try some other one but because of the language reason they can not provide service. Therefore my option are either shared house or some expensive choices, I choose the second one because of my plan is to stay in Japan for longer period. The rent was much higher than normal price and the apartment area is quite small. Although everything is included in the rent but in comparison is still 20 to 30 percent more expensive, at the same time I’m not able to choose the utility provider as I want. (internet is quite unstable and sometimes it stops). The worst thing is I can not have a long term contract which means I have to do a renewal every 3 months, very inconvenient. Also the furniture they provide is relatively old, and the area will not allow me to get more furniture. Even I stay for longer time than usual, I don’t have option to have a better contact.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I honestly had such a hard time when I looked for an accommodation in Tokyo. I wanted to live within walking distance from my exchange university at a reasonable price. Most agencies would not really understand that, and would always try to either move you a bit further than what you wished, or make you raise your budget. Especially when it comes to renting an apartment for one of two years, landlords can also have some fuss or stereotypes about foreigners. `They will not know how to do recycling and will turn out to be a pain`, `They will return the apartment in a messy state`, `They will smoke indoors even though it is strictly prohibited to`, and so on is what I often was told by the numerous estate agents who tried to help me with my search. Although, what I noticed with the Tokyo Housing staff is that they really do go the extra mile to accommodate all your wishes in the best possible way, and try to mediate between you and the landlord to overcome these stereotypes and prejudices.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I think what attracted me to Tokyo Housing was the big signboard they have outside their office just around the corner from Takadanobaba station. Compared to all the many other the agencies in the same street, Tokyo Housing was the one with the most variegated range of options and prices, and I thought they would sure have something for me too. In addition, their advertising bases its strengths on a foreigner-friendly type of service, which I thought was really great considering the type of struggles I had to face at first. When I walked into their office for the first time I was actually able to discover the incredible amount of effort they put into speaking in English, not just Japanese to you, to save you a lot of hassle, misunderstandings or disappointments.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

My experience at Tokyo Housing was very unique and special. I immediately got really close to the staff members, and I felt like I could rely on them every time I needed help with paying my bills, moving in and out, or just filling up some boring paperwork. I felt an incredible power from the staff to actually understand my needs, and they genuinely made my experience in Japan less stressful and actually enjoyable. I see all the staff members as a part of my family in Tokyo, and I always felt protected and looked after when I was renting with them.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

As I mentioned in Q2, the main difference is firstly the vast variety of options and availability. Tokyo Housing works on a considerably wide scope in Tokyo and the surroundings, so I would recommend you to even try and have a look, you may be able to find so many options with them that you would not necessarily come across if you are with another agency.
Secondly, the approach. The staff is incredibly kind and super sweet and helpful. They love doing their job, they put a lot of passion and effort into the company, and they do also make sure that you, as a customer, is fully happy and satisfied with your life in Japan. They are incredibly open-minded, I have just never really felt uncomfortable or dismissed, and I was even able to spend some time with the staff members outside of their office, to just have a laugh and get to know each other better.
All in all, great communication skills, fantastic customer service and a unique approach that immediately makes you feel like at home.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Plenty! As a foreigner in Japan you are not used to their system. Even if you do speak the language the sheer amount of paperwork and fees are mind blowing. Just finding a good estate agent is difficult. There are many estate agents that think they can just send you 50 links to apartments in the hope you will pick one. But it is difficult to find an estate agent that actually helps and understands what you are looking for.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

First off being able to communicate in English was a big plus for me. A friend recommended Tokyo Housing saying she had a great experience with them. Which is why I gave them a try after I had a few disappointing experiences with other housing agencies.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

The fact that when you walk into their office you get greeted with an honest smile and a friendly chat. They put an effort into making you a happy customer which for me made it worth every penny so to say. Also they have a great support system for when you have any problems or issues regarding the house. It makes it more comfortable to move into a new house knowing that there is someone you can always ask for help.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

The biggest and most important one for me was that the agent that helped me put a lot of effort in to understand what type of apartment I was looking for and why. That way the apartments that she suggested were all great options and resulted in me finding an apartment within two weeks.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I ran into many problems when I was first searching for an apartment in Tokyo like figuring out which areas were in my price range, what the average size was for an apartment in Tokyo, and how likely it would be for me to find an apartment I really wanted, but luckily Tokyo Housing was willing to truly sit down with me and figure out all the details until we could find a place I could really appreciate. We spent a lot of time searching, but Tokyo Housing was very diligent and listened to all my requests!

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend introduced Tokyo Housing to me and after the first meeting with them, I knew they were genuinely interested in helping me find the right place.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Not only did Tokyo Housing sit down and listen to the specific details I had in mind for an apartment in Tokyo, but they found me the right place within a very short period of time. We worked together all day and night to find the apartment and I am still very appreciative of their willingness to help, as well as their great ability to find the apartment that best suited my needs.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

I visited another real estate agency in Tokyo before Tokyo Housing, which made me extremely depressed because they made it seem like it was impossible to find an apartment in my price range in the areas I had in mind. After my first meeting with Tokyo Housing, I realized that the right real estate agency makes all the difference. I was able to find a perfect place in the area I wanted, but only because Tokyo Housing was willing to go the extra mile to truly help me out.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Finding a house here in Tokyo is hard as being a foreigner the list of available options is reduced for us. Also, there are certain things that are not common in other countries such as the “DK”, “2DLK” terms, the kind of fees (like “key money”, “key deposit”), the “guarantor” and more details that someone had to explain to us in order to fully understand the procedure of renting a house. Which in our case Tokyo Housing staff did for us.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

We’d been told by a friend that there was English speaking staff, so it was a big point for us as understanding all the process and terms is hard, but at least we removed the language barrier.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Our friend had already warned Tokyo Housing staff about our interest on contacting them, and also booked a face-to-face meeting to explain them our needs. By the time when we met them they had already performed a basic search for us, so even since the very first minute our visit to them was totally worthwhile.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Tokyo Housing looked for something that we needed, and not something to count another customer. They understood our needs and, among the available apartments, they found the ones that suited us. In other agencies they were always offering places that met just a few of our requirements. This was common at other agencies: “if one apartment was cheap it was far away, and if it was cheap and close to our desired area it’d have been old.” At Tokyo Housing this didn’t happen, so that’s why we are glad we found them.
Apart from that, they also helped us with our internet contract, and within a week we had internet installed at our place without needing to say a word in Japanese.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes, the language is the most important. Not many people at Fudosan speak English.
The other most important point is that many Japanese owning a house to rent do not want to rent an apartment to foreigners.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

They can speak English!!!

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

They help me a lot. Not only with the search of an apartment. They also help me with the gas, water and Internet too.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

They are very close to people and treated me very nicely.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes, I did encounter difficulties when looking for an apartment. I found that the system for finding apartments here in Japan was very different to that of my home country, Australia, so it was hard to find a place. Many of the agencies I first went to did not have much experience dealing with foreigners, so it was quite difficult.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend of mine recommended Tokyo Housing to me because he had a good experience dealing with the staff there. As soon as I entered the office the staff did everything they could to make sure that the whole process was as smooth as possible, and was easy to understand for a foreigner like myself who is unfamiliar with the Japanese real estate system. My initial attraction to Tokyo Housing was that my friend told me they were friendly, helpful and flexible. I certainly found this to be true in all of my dealings with them.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

The people at Tokyo Housing is what made my experience good there. From the moment I first entered their office, the staff made me feel welcome, relaxed and confident in their ability to find somewhere good for me. All of the people I dealt with at Tokyo Housing were friendly, supportive, and worked tirelessly for me to find a place. I was soon laughing and joking with the staff, and I came to enjoy our outings when we went looking for apartments.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

There were many differences I found between Tokyo Housing and other agencies. Most importantly for me was their extensive knowledge and experience of foreign cultures and foreign languages. The staff are constantly involved with traveling to and working in foreign countries so they are very aware of the differences in cultures that exist between different countries, and how this can be problematic for foreigners. This meant that the whole process was much easier to understand for me than other agencies. Another big difference was their excellent customer service. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful, and willing to help you out in any way they can. I cannot recommend Tokyo Housing highly enough. Thanks guys!

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Searching for an apartment can be very time consuming and frustrating. There are so many places available and not enough time to see them all. It’s tough to find an agent that is going to be willing to work with the renter and respect their process, timing and preferences.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

They put no pressure on us to make a quick decision. They gave us space to decide what type of apartment was going to be best for us. If it would have taken us a month to find our place, I feel confident that the boys at Plaza would have been there to support us every step of the way. That made us feel really comfortable.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Plaza has a very familiar and cozy atmosphere. The staff are there to assist in any way and they seem to get true satisfaction from helping people find their next home. They have pretty good coffee too!

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

We went to three other agencies besides Plaza. There was real pressure from them for us to decide quickly. We felt like they were just trying to bring us in and spit us out. Plaza has a different process than the rest. Instead of a lot of customers quickly, they like to say “a few with care.” That works for me.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

When searching for an apartment we initially found it difficult to orientate ourselves in Tokyo. We were not sure about which areas were good to live in but did have an idea of our maximum commute to work. It was difficult searching online as the English websites catered mainly for high earners or lower end shared housing.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

The main thing that attracted us to Tokyo Housing was Alex’s amazing street sign! Only joking – ignore that. We found a recommendation online that spoke of the good service and the English speaking ability at the agent. Actually, the article came from the Ben’s cafe website.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

We were made to feel welcome when we first arrived at the door of Plaza. Alex and Iwashita-san both tried to get an understanding of our requirements and it was good not to have to use Yahoo! Translate to communicate.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

We did not feel like we were getting the “hard sell” and were comfortable to wait until the right property came up. When we encountered some difficulties with landlords over accepting foreign tenants, Plaza were not put off and tried to resolve the problems by negotiating on our behalf.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes I did. I will describe just one. I was disappointed when after booking an appointment and going to a real estate office, the officer made a cursory search and bluntly told me he could not get me the apartment; and there was no indication of commitment to do further search, not even ‘go and come later’. What was most surprising was not just disappointment but the stern and dreary look on his face, as if attending to me was a bother. I wondered if they really are into business. Customer service was terribly poor.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

After a few unsuccessful attempts I met friend who had been satisfactorily accommodated by Tokyo Housing, who then recommended this to me. I came and it was a totally different experience – my past difficulties and unpleasant experience turned into satisfaction and excitement. I got my apartment in less than 24 hrs.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Tokyo Housing is committed to its cause of helping people find their desired accommodation as much as possible, irrespective of race, color, social standing or other. Tokyo Housing is client-centered. Tokyo Housing places value and accords high respect to its clients. Tokyo Housing delivers on its mandates.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

In the light of responses given above, the differences between Tokyo Housing and others Real Estate Agencies are clear. Besides efforts to ensure clients satisfaction, the warmth and commitment to maintain good human relationship with clients is always admirable and makes the first time visitor immediately feel welcome. Furthermore, where many other Agencies would take you to, Tokyo Housing takes you beyond. This is what I read when I first entered the office of Tokyo Housing, “You give us hope, we thank you. Let us support your life in Japan”. I can testify that Tokyo Housing lives up to this mission.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Finding accommodation in Japan is not easy, particularly for foreigners. First of all, there was the language barrier, as most real estate agents speak only Japanese. Secondly, we got rejected by a couple of agencies because, even if they spoke English, they claimed the landlords they normally deal with do not want to rent to foreigners and they recommended us to look elsewhere. We did actually experience that, some landlords not wanting to show us their places, but in general with other agents and management companies there were enough apartments also available for us. Finally, once we found an apartment we liked, there was the added difficulty of the guarantor. As we did not have a Japanese person that could be our guarantor, we had to go through some guarantor company, and again, even if you are paying these companies from half a month to a full month of rent, some of them also rejected us for not speaking enough Japanese.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend that had found his accommodation through them recommended it to us. He explained us that they had a staff member, that spoke English, and put us in contact with her.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

She was extremely helpful from minute one, helping us look, translate and deal with management companies, landlords and other involved companies. The fact that she speaks English, and understood perfectly what we were looking for and wanted, made our search much more straightforward.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Again, the staff at Tokyo Housing made everything easy. She explained us better how the system works, she advised us on what to look for and not to look for in apartments, she also took care of filing applications, contacting guarantor companies and all other bureaucratic procedures, as well as being the translator during the signing of the contract. She even arranged for us the water, electricity and gas once we moved in! I believe that is not normally part of what other agencies do.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes. The first problem is that the process to rent a house in Japan is absolutely different to the rest of the world (at least, if we compare it with Argentina). Furthermore, to do so there are some requirements quite difficult for us who come for the first time to Japan.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

I came here by recommendation of KAI School’s staff.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

The personalized attention, without deviation and honest. The staff is always willing to look for solutions and push forward, having in mind the client’s requirements.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Totally. In the other agencies they only concentrate on selling one product, while at Tokyo Housing they made everything that was necessary for me to get the apartment.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

Yes, I had problems, from Spain I tried to find an apartment but the real estate companies didn’t have english support and the only one I found that had it, didn’t have a great customer service and it was way too expensive for the apartments they offered. With the help of my japanese friend I got in touch with companies that only could speak japanese and I realized they were not willing too much to rent to foreigners.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

Having Engish speaking staff and feeling, after reading the web site and watch some videos they have, that is not the kind of real estate company that only wants to rent you a house, but a place where they will give you all the help you may need in your new life in Japan.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

.The staff always have a smile for you, help you to solve all the difficulties that appear when you come to Japan and you can feel they treat you not only like a client but as a friend. You don’t feel, like in other real estate companies, that they are going to make you rent something way over the real price and you can also feel that they really want you to choose the flat you really like not the one that gives them more benefit. You can have full confidence.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Only one? hahaha. At Tokyo Housing they fully understand all the difficulties we have as foreigners when beginning a life here, they help you, advise you, comfort you and help you solve the problems that may come. I would say they are more than a real estate agency and I couldn’t see that in the other ones I consulted.

The predisposition and kindness of the staff. Without a doubt is what makes people come here and that I, personally, continue recommending Tokyo Housing.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Yes. The biggest difference was the way to search for the house. You search with the agent, in front of the monitor, total clarity.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

The problems were simply some owners don’t want to rent to foreigners, families with children or people who can’t speak much japanese.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend of mine gave me the contact. His recommendation was based on the good treatment received, especially by the real estate agent he dealt with.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

The treat and the dedication has been excellent. The help with all the paperwork from the house or even, after signing the contract is completely satisfactory.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Yes, the agency helps you with all the paperwork, from the search of the house according to your preferences to the the paperwork related to the other services, supplies contracts, insurances, etc…. Tokyo Housing follows all the process.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

The first matter I faced was caused by the huge amount of fake information you find on website such as Suumo. Several ads are about rooms already rented, or pictures often don’t match the actual room.
A second – but more problematic – matter was to find a foreigner-friendly apartment. It is pretty demotivating to be rejected in almost all the rooms you inquire for, just because you are a foreigner.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

The international staff made me feeling free to express every discomfort or concerns I had. Dealing with people who faced the same problems I had made me feeling that I could completely rely on them. Japanese staff too made me feeling comfortable, and I want to thank them for this.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

I was pretty sad as anytime I found a nice room, it was not available for foreigners. Despite of this, the agent constantly remembered me to focus on my priority, my desired conditions and not giving up. Thanks to her we eventually managed to find a room which I’m really loving to live in.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

My experience with Tokyo Housing was not just a trade, it became a human relation. While they helped me to look for a home, I was already feeling… at home. Staff and the office itself made me feel like I was receiving a friendly help and support, rather than just a service.

My girlfriend had some friends that told her that she should try and go to Tokyo Housing to find an apartment for me. Because they had experience with people coming all over the world, so it was not hard to decide where to go.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

I felt extremely welcomed at Tokyo Housing. They even helped me with many other new things that I was not used to. And when we where searching for apartments they where always willing to continue searching if I was not 100% happy.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I think the only problem I had was a lot of places didn’t accept foreigners or students without a job.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

When I first began to look for a house in Japan, I contacted some real estate agencies and had some problems with them… When i told my friend, she recommended me this real estate agency, so i contacted them and from the first mail i liked the way they treated me.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

Having a staff working there, who was in the same situation as student as me and who understands the economical or other kind needs, helped to made the process less painful.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

The first noticeable difference I noticed from the other real estates was how fast they replied my mail: in other agencies they event took 1 week to reply my first mail. However, in this agency I sent the email and the next they they replied to me.
The next difference was on the first mail I explained about the kind of house I was looking for and I specified how much i could afford. Most of the agencies showed me the plans and some pictures of really different houses and way more expensive of what I told them. Even they wanted me to sign the contract without seeing the houses.
At Tokyo Housing they always searched inside the range of price I could afford, the warned me about the bad and the good things of every house from the beginning and they even offered to show me the houses via Skype when I was still in Spain.

This was my second time searching for an apartment in Tokyo, so I did not encounter any unexpected problems. My experience with Tokyo Housing was a good one. Tokyo Housing’s services were quick helpful and effective.

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I am very picky and I had a looong list of requirements for an apartment. Also, I’m a student, a foreigner, don’t speak much Japanese, and I needed a place that allows pets. All of those things combined makes it really difficult to find somewhere to live! I was pretty worried that I would have to sacrifice many of my requirements or pay a lot of money to get what I wanted.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

A friend on Facebook posted about them. I was pretty clueless about realtors and needed one that spoke English, so I decided to give it a shot.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

I was so nervous to search for an apartment, but the staff made it so easy for me. I had several apartment demands, and I was worried that I wouldn’t find any that I liked, but the first one they showed me was amazing! I just moved in and I’m super happy with my new cute and stylish apartment! Even though I was hesitant about making such a big decision, they were always patient and kind to me. The staff goes above and beyond for their customers, they are so nice (and funny!); it is always enjoyable to visit their office. I feel that they genuinely care about their customers.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Tokyo Housing is so fantastic, I think you shouldn’t even bother wasting your time with other agencies!

Q1. Did you encounter any difficulties when searching for an apartment? If so, please describe them.

I have never personally encountered any difficulties, but that’s probably because I avoided real estate agencies. I had heard many horror stories about real estate agents from my friends, both new to Japan and long-time residents.

Q2. What attracted you to Tokyo Housing?

It was my co-worker’s personal testimony. My co-worker who had had her fair share of bad times in finding residence, recommended Tokyo Housing to me. When she did, she told me how kind her agent was and how he worked to find not just a place, but a place that went beyond her expectations.

Q3. What made the experience at Tokyo Housing good? Briefly describe your experience with us.

I have to admit that even after my friend’s recommendation I was a little apprehensive about going to a real estate agency. But after a few exchanges through email, I went to meet with one of the agents, Iwashita-san. He kindly listened to me about what I had to have in a new place and even taught me some new things about what I should look for in a good place. What I liked most was that he was straight and honest with me; he told me what he could and couldn’t do, but at the same time that he would do whatever possible to find a place that fit my description. A few days later (did I mention that I needed to find a place in a week?) he had picked out 3 places that were all good, but one was great. The moment I saw the place I knew that it was the place for me! I didn’t think it was possible, but Iwashita-san found a place that had met all my expectations.

Q4. Were there any differences that you found between Tokyo Housing and other Real Estate Agencies?

Although I hadn’t dealt with a real estate agency before, I had been to one with some friends and one difference I noticed is that at Tokyo Housing Iwashita-san talked to me like I was person who needed help in finding a new place and not a customer who didn’t know about looking for a place to live. I don’t know about you, but to me that is a huge difference. It helped me relax and feel I could openly ask any doubts or questions I had. Not only that, but even now, a year after, they remember and are concerned about how I’m doing, and of course my answer is always “Great”!

When I came first in Tokyo, I didn’t have any trouble concerning my apartment because I could search it with Tokyo Housing’s worker Manabu Takahashi. It really helps to be able to talk about the details such as price or location with someone before starting to rent anything. Now I am renting Tokyo Housing’s Flat and I have no regret about it.

I heard about Tokyo Housing from a Japanese friend I met before during another trip while I was already planning to go to Japan. He was using it already and recommended it to me.

What I like the most about Tokyo Housing is the fact that I can go to see the workers and ask them anything about Japan. After 3 months in Japan I have asked them to look for information about how to get my visa to stay longer, now I’m here for a year. These things make me feel more secure especially before when I didn’t know lots of people and didn’t know who to talk to in case I would have troubles.

The main difference between Tokyo Housing and other companies is the relationship customers have with the workers here. I often see other foreigners and even some Japanese asking for information or help and they always leave the office happy.
